Lake Norman State Park 30K & 50K Trail Race

The event is an annual trail race at Lake Norman State Park offering two distances with a nine hour cut-off. The course uses smooth-rolling single-track trails with no repeat loops and starts and finishes in the field behind the Visitors Center.

The 30K route follows Laurel Loop, crosses Wildlife Road to Wildlife Loop, then continues on Fallstown Loop and Fox Loop before returning on Laurel Loop. The 30K has approximately 1,600 feet of elevation gain. The 50K runners follow the 30K route and then continue on Hawk Loop, Hicks Creek Loop, Norwood Creek Loop, and Monbo Loop before finishing on Hawk and Laurel Loops. All loops are run counterclockwise, opposite to bike traffic. The 50K is also listed with approximately 1,600 feet of elevation gain.

Aid stations are fully stocked with water, soda, Tailwind, and a range of food including sandwiches, cookies, oranges, bananas, Hammer Gels, chips, and other snacks. Aid station #1 is at the entrance and exit of Wildlife Loop at about Mile 6.3 and Mile 14.3. The 50K course includes a hydration station near Mile 18.3 and an aid station before Monbo Loop near Mile 24.2. Finish line food will be available.

All finishers who complete their event receive a finisher medal. Special awards are listed for first overall male and female and first male and female masters in each distance. Results are posted online after the race. The event runs rain or shine, has a no refund and no deferral policy, and will use the Lake Shore Loop at the back of the park if the Itusi trails are closed. Volunteers receive a shirt and volunteers who help four hours or longer receive entry to the next year s event.
