Lake Norman State Park 30K & 50K Trail Race
The Lake Norman State Park Trail Race takes place on December 5, 2026 in Troutman, NC, and is organized by Ultra Adventures Inc. The event offers two distances and a 9-hour cut-off for each event.
- 30K
- 50K
Both courses use smooth-rolling single-track trails with no repeat loops. Loops are run counterclockwise, opposite to bike traffic. The 30K route includes Laurel Loop, Wildlife Loop, Fallstown Loop, and Fox Loop and returns to the field behind the Visitors Center. The 50K follows the 30K route and then continues onto Hawk Loop, Hicks Creek Loop, Norwood Creek Loop, and Monbo Loop before finishing via Hawk and Laurel Loops. Each course has approximately 1,600 feet of elevation gain.
Aid stations are fully stocked with water, soda, Tailwind, and food such as sandwiches, cookies, fruit, gels, and snacks. Aid station #1 is near the entrance and exit of Wildlife Loop at about mile 6.3 and mile 14.3. A hydration station is on the 50K at about mile 18.3 and aid station #2 is before Monbo Loop at about mile 24.2. Additional food is provided at the finish line.
Finishers who complete their selected event receive a finisher medal. Awards are given to 1st Overall Male and Female and to 1st Male and Female Masters for both distances. Photos are taken during the race and at the finish. The event proceeds rain or shine, with an alternate Lake Shore Loop course if certain trails are closed. Camping is available at Lake Norman State Park and hotels are available in nearby towns. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
