Kettlefoot is a trail race event held at Doe Mountain Recreation Area near Mountain City, Tennessee. The event offers multiple distances on mountain trails and includes access to the 60-foot Kettlefoot Fire Tower with 360° views across Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina.

Distances

  • 50K (approximately 31 miles)
  • 25K (approximately 15 miles)
  • 13K (approximately 8.8 miles)

Course details note substantial climbing. Published figures list roughly 5,500 feet elevation gain for the 50K and 2,750 feet for the 25K, while some runner data show slightly lower totals; the 50K is run as two laps of the 25K loop. Time cutoffs are published for each distance.

Registration is handled through UltraSignup only; there is no paper registration. Entry fees cover use of the facility, aid stations, a finisher award, and post-race food. T-shirts are available as an optional add-on. The event has a no-refund policy; transfers are allowed until May 22, 2027. A pregnancy and postpartum deferral is permitted for up to two years under Trail Sisters Approved standards.

Volunteers receive a t-shirt and post-race food. Vehicle camping on DMRA property is permitted with prior arrangement. Doe Mountain Recreation Area is located near Mountain City and is within driving distance of nearby towns such as Damascus VA, Boone NC, Johnson City TN, and Bristol TN.
