Iron Furnace Trail Run

The Iron Furnace Trail Run is a trail running event held at Lake Hope State Park and Zaleski State Forest in McArthur, Ohio. Now in its 13th year, the race features technical terrain characterized by deep gorges, rocky outcroppings, and scenic overviews. Most of the course consists of singletrack trails with limited sections of pavement.

Participants can choose from two distinct distances:

  • 13.1 miles (True distance 13.49 miles) with approximately 2185 feet of elevation gain.
  • 5 miles (True distance 5.11 miles) with approximately 587 feet of elevation gain.

The event has a total capacity of 215 participants across both distances. Registration is conducted online, and there is no race-day registration. The course begins and ends at the Lake Hope State Park Beach Lot.

The 13.1 mile course includes a time limit, with a mandatory cut-off at the 8.05-mile mark after three hours. The entire event closes 4.5 hours after the start. Walkers are permitted, specifically in the 5 mile distance, provided they finish within the overall time limit.

Aid stations are placed along both routes, providing support at specific mileage intervals. Finisher awards are provided to all participants who complete their respective courses. Post-race food, including options for vegan diets, is served at the finish area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
