Into the Woods: Trail Running for Newbies

This is a four week trail running series held on Thursdays from May 7 to May 28 at local parks including Mendon Ponds Park and Powder Mills Park. Sessions run 90 minutes and focus on introducing road runners to trail terrain in a group setting led by a group instructor with extensive trail and ultramarathon experience.

The program is designed for participants who can comfortably complete a continuous 30 to 45 minute outdoor run, approximately 3 miles, on the road. Each session includes dynamic warm ups, guided run segments paced to individual ability, skill drills that emphasize hill technique, footwork, and trail awareness, plus stretching and cool downs.

Practical gear and safety guidance are part of the curriculum so participants learn what to wear and what to carry for comfort and security on trails. Participants will receive a pair of trail socks and additional gifts provided by Rochester Running Company. The series meets at four different scenic locations to provide varied trail conditions and practical experience that can be applied on future runs.
