The Event
The Hurt'n Bear is a trail race held at the Pidherny Recreation Site, a 620-hectare recreational area within city limits. The event takes place on Saturday, May 23, 2026. Registration is online only and closes on May 19, 2026 at 6:00 PM. There is no race day registration.
The available distances are:
- 5 km
- 10 km
- Hagen Half (21.3 km)
Registration is free for Prince George Road Runners (PGRR) members. For non-members, fees are $20 for the 5 km, $25 for the 10 km, and $35 for the Hagen Half.
Course Details
The race takes place on a network of dirt and gravel trails. The 5 km route includes a climb of approximately 250 meters. The 10 km and Hagen Half routes are considered intermediate to advanced. Aid stations are provided for the 10 km and Hagen Half races. The course is marked with flagging stakes and tape.
The setting is wilderness, and carrying bear spray is recommended. Runners participating in the Hagen Half are also recommended to carry a cell phone. First aid is provided by members of the Canadian Ski Patrol.
Practical Information
The Hurt'n Bear is a BC Athletics-sanctioned event, but it is manually timed. A free kids race is included. Dogs and headphones are not allowed for safety and liability reasons. Parking in the upper lot is limited. A portion of the race proceeds goes to the Prince George Cycling Club for trail maintenance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
