Hurt'n Bear - Prince George Road Runners
The Hurt'n Bear Trail Race takes place at the Pidherny Recreation Site, a 620-hectare area located above North Nechako. The site features unique terrain shaped by eskers and glacial kettles along the Nechako River. The event utilizes a vast trail network managed in collaboration with the Prince George Cycling Club, with a portion of race proceeds supporting trail maintenance.
The event offers a variety of distances:
- Kids Race (1 km) : A non-competitive fun run for children aged 3-10.
- 5 km : Features 230 m of ascent and descent with a steep climb at the 2 km mark.
- 10 km : Includes 361 m of elevation gain and one aid station.
- 21 km : A half-marathon distance with 498 m of ascent and three aid stations.
Registration must be completed online in advance, as there is no race-day registration. Participants in the 21 km event face a strict two-hour cutoff at the 11 km mark (the top of Valve Job). The courses consist of singletrack trails and forest service roads, and are marked with flagging stakes and tape. For safety reasons, dogs and headphones are not permitted on the course. First aid services are provided by members of the Canadian Ski Patrol. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
