Event Overview
The Hungry Mother Trail Run & Hike takes place at Hungry Mother State Park in Marion, Virginia. The event offers three different activities: an 8 Mile Race, a 25k Race, and an 8 Mile Hike.
The Races and Hike
The 8 Mile Race/Hike course is an out-and-back route with views of a lake. It has an elevation gain of 800 feet. Aid is available at the 4-mile turnaround point and the start/finish area. A portable toilet is located near the boat ramp parking lot around miles 3 and 5.
The 25k Race is a one-lap mountain course with over 2000 feet of elevation gain. Aid stations are located around miles 4, 10, and at the start/finish. Restrooms are available around miles 5 and 10.
Event Details
The start and finish area is at the picnic shelters near Creekside Campground, next to parking lot 6. Check-in and on-site sign-up (cash only) occurs before the event. Participants not camping in the park must pay a $7 parking fee at the gate; exact cash is recommended.
The park offers camping, lodging, and other activities. A limited number of group camping spots are available for $10 per person per night, which includes parking and swimming fees.
After the events, there will be awards, refreshments, live music, and games. All finishers who register in time receive a custom wood medal. Top three overall finishers and first-place age group winners (male and female) receive custom awards. Professional photography is included.
