Howelsen Hill Trail Run

The Howelsen Hill Trail Run takes place in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, utilizing the scenic trail network of the historic Howelsen Hill Ski Area. The event features a loop course on Emerald Mountain, characteristically surrounded by aspen trees and seasonal wildflowers. Participants navigate a mix of established and new single-track trails.

The course begins at Olympian Hall and follows the Bluff's trail before heading uphill on the Lupine trail. The route then transitions to a downhill section via the MGM and Meadow trails, eventually returning to the base of the ski area. One main aid station is positioned at the top of the climb. To minimize waste, the organizers recommend that participants carry their own hydration bottles or packs.

The available distances for this event include:

  • 8 mile
  • 4 mile

The event center is located at Olympian Hall. Following the run, an awards ceremony is held for the top three male and female finishers. All participants are included in a prize raffle held after the awards. Proceeds from the race are donated to the Knights of Columbus. While the race takes place within a city park where pets must be leashed, the narrow nature of the trails makes the course less suitable for animals.
