Howelsen Hill Trail Run
The Howelsen Hill Trail Run is a trail race held on the single-track network around Howelsen Hill and Emerald Mountain in Steamboat Springs. The event takes place at Olympian Hall and follows a loop that begins on the Bluff’s trail, climbs via Lupine trail, and descends on MGM and the Meadow trail to the base of the historic Howelsen Hill Ski Area.
All running is on trails and the course is well marked. There is one main aid station located at the top of the climb. To reduce cup waste, participants are encouraged to carry their own hydration bottle or pack.
Distances:
- 8 mile
- 4 mile
Packet pickup is available in advance at a local running shop and packet pickup and in-person registration are offered at Olympian Hall on race day. Registration fees are tiered by distance and date; prices listed by the organizer include an 8 mile fee and a 4 mile fee, with reduced youth pricing for ages 17 and under. T-shirts are offered for an additional fee and are not guaranteed after the event date.
Pets are not ideal on the narrow trails and must be leashed within the city park. The event does not offer refunds and benefits local non-profit organizations. Awards for first through third place male and female finishers are presented after the race, followed by a raffle and a post-race brunch.
