Hahns Peak Vertical Trail Race
The Hahns Peak Vertical Trail Race is an out and back mountain running event located north of Hahns Peak Village in Clark, Colorado. The course begins at the Quarry Lot and covers a total distance of 8 miles. Participants navigate a route that consists of approximately 75% single track and a mix of jeep roads. The course features 2,200 feet of elevation gain as it ascends toward the summit of Hahns Peak.
The route follows the trail for 4 miles upward to reach a fire lookout tower constructed in 1912. Hahns Peak is a former active volcano with an elevation of 10,839 feet. The final approach to the summit is characterized by a loose rock and talus slope, where marked chutes are used to guide runners during the ascent and descent. After reaching the lookout tower, runners turn around and follow the same trail 4 miles back down to the finish line at the Quarry Lot.

The event includes a time cutoff at the intersection where the single track begins, prior to the final summit push. This cutoff is set for 10:00 am to ensure the safety of participants and volunteers. Race proceeds are donated to support the Steamboat Springs High School Track and Field and Cross Country programs. Awards are provided for the top three male and female finishers in both adult and youth categories, and all participants are entered into a post-race raffle.
