Event Overview
The Hahns Peak Vertical Trail Race is an 8-mile out-and-back trail run held on July 5, 2026, in Clark, Colorado. The event starts and finishes at the Hahns Peak Quarry Lot on Forest Road 550. The course ascends 4 miles to the summit of Hahns Peak, an extinct volcano with an elevation of 10,839 feet, where participants reach a historic fire lookout tower built in 1912. The final approach to the summit features a talus (loose rock) slope.
Course Details
The route is approximately 75% single-track trail with a total elevation gain of 2,200 feet. It consists of a mix of jeep road, single-track trail, and talus slopes. The race is timed by Kandu Timing.
Race Logistics
Two start waves are offered: a main wave at 8:30 AM and an early wave at 7:30 AM for participants who may need more time. Entry for the early wave must be requested in advance. A course cutoff is in place at 10:00 AM at a designated intersection before the final summit push. Participants continuing past this time do so unsupported.
Awards and Charity
Awards are given to the top three adult and youth male and female finishers who start in the 8:30 AM wave. All participants are entered into a post-race raffle. Registration and Fees
- Online registration is available until July 4 at 6:00 PM, with on-site registration from 7:15 AM to 8:15 AM on race day.
- The standard fee for the 8-mile race is $40 ($50 on race day). Racers aged 17 and under can register for $15.
- T-shirts are available for $15, with size guaranteed only for registrations by June 20. There are no refunds.
- Packet pickup is available only on race day starting at 7:15 AM at the start line.
