Forest Trail Event in Leeds
The Meanwood Holly Hustle is a trail run that takes place through the woodland areas of Leeds. The route starts in Meanwood and utilizes a combination of paths through Meanwood Park and The Hollies. This area is known for its extensive woods and various plant species. The course also includes sections along the Meanwood Valley Trail, passing local landmarks such as the Seven Arches viaduct and Adel Crag.
The event follows a single distance:
- 10.5 km (approximately 6.5 miles) with 200 m of elevation gain.
Participants encounter varied terrain including grass, rocky ground, muddy trails, and standard footpaths. Due to the November date, the course is often characterized by significant mud. Most the route consists of narrow paths and technical sections, while a small portion involves a marshalled private road where runners are advised to use the pavement.
Facilities and Requirements
The race headquarters is located at the Meanwood Institute, which provides access to toilets and bag storage. This is a cupless event, meaning runners must bring their own water container to use at the refill stations. It is also recommended that participants carry a warm layer or jacket. The use of headphones is discouraged due to the technical nature of the trails.
The event has an entry limit of 200 participants and is open to those aged 18 and over. Finishers are provided with complimentary soup at the end of the race. While medals and t-shirts are not included in the standard entry fee to reduce waste, they can be purchased as optional extras. Alternatively, runners can choose to make a donation to plant a tree.

The Meanwood Institute is situated 5 minutes from the town center. While on-street parking is available nearby, participants are encouraged to arrive via public transport, bicycle, or on foot to minimize local impact. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
