The Heptonstall Fell Race takes place in Heptonstall, West Yorkshire on Sunday 22 March 2026. The course is classified by the FRA as Category BL (Long). The route distance is 24.8 km / 15.4 miles with approximately 966 m of ascent. Registration is at St Thomas Church (HX7 7NT) and the race starts from Weavers Square in the village. Entry, safety and logistics

Entry is by pre-entry only via SiEntries, opening Saturday 17 January 2026 and closing Friday 20 March 2026. The entry fee is £15. Entry on the day is not available. The event holds a Permit and associated UK Athletics insurance from the FRA. Teams and junior races are not offered.

FRA kit is required. Mandatory items include full waterproof body cover, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food. Two course cut-off points are planned at Walshaw Farm: the first about 1 km before CP4 (2 hours 15 minutes after the start) and the second when passing Walshaw a second time after CP6 (3 hours after the start). Organisers reserve the right to alter cut-off times for weather and marshals’ decisions are final.

Parking is provided at village locations (including HX7 7LT and HX7 7EU) with a small donation requested; proceeds support local groups.

Course and terrain

The route crosses steep-sided wooded valleys, upland pasture and pathless moorland. It includes grassy slopes, boggy stretches, heather, dense woodland and open fell with wide views across the South Pennines.
