Event overview

Heights Ultra Trail is a charity running festival based at Colne Valley High School, Gillroyd Lane, Linthwaite, Huddersfield HD7 5SP. The event offers four marked races:

  • 50 Mile
  • 50 KM
  • 27 KM
  • 10 KM

The event raises funds for local rural primary schools. The venue has on-site parking with an overflow car park about 100 metres away. The nearest train station is Slaithwaite, about 1.8 miles from the event centre. Bus services from Huddersfield serve the area. Results and live timing are provided by official timing partners; the ultra events are tracked timed and the 27K and 10K are chip timed.

Route, navigation and support

All races start and finish at the event centre race arch. Routes run across technical ground and open moorland, including parts of the Pennine Way. Signage for the longer routes begins around 3.5 km; the last 4 kilometres of all courses follow the same, heavily marked route back to the centre. Where routes split, obvious markings are provided.

Navigation aids and kit: entry for the 50 Mile and 50 KM includes a full colour waterproof map; the 27 KM route map is available to purchase on the day. Mobile phones must not be used for navigation unless a spare phone is carried; the what3words app is required. The event is cupless - participants must carry a water container or mug.

Support and checkpoints: feed stations are provided on the ultra routes with sandwiches, fresh fruit, cakes, hot drinks, soups and savoury snacks. Additional water-only stations and contributions from nearby farms are listed for some points on the ultra routes. Photographers will cover the course and finish area.
