Heckscher Classic Trail Race

East Islip, United States • 29 Mar 2026

Event Overview

The Heckscher Classic is a trail race on March 29, 2026, at Heckscher State Park in East Islip, New York. Participants can choose between a 7-mile or a 14-mile course.

Course Details

The course follows the scenic perimeter of Heckscher State Park in a clockwise direction on smooth trails. The route will be clearly marked.

Event Format

The event is described as one step up from a "fat ass" style run, with manual timing. A basic aid station with water and light snacks like pretzels, chips, and candy is located at the start/finish area (mile 7 of the loop). The event is cupless, so runners must bring their own container for liquids. Participants are asked to carry out their own trash.

Participant Information

Bib pickup begins at 7:45 a.m. Parking is available at Fields 3 and 4. All finishers receive a 3D printed wooden medallion, and each participant gets a Heckscher Classic bucket hat. Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers in each distance; winners receive a wood-engraved coin to add to their medallion.

Additional Notes

Participants in the King of the Hill 3-Hour Run on March 7th at Sunken Meadow State Park receive a $10 discount on registration. The Long Island Endurance Club hosts group runs at Heckscher State Park on March 14th and 22nd. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
