Run for the Rescue 5K Trail Run/Walk

The Run for the Rescue is a 5K trail run/walk held on April 11, 2026 at Blydenburgh County Park Campground Playground, Veterans Memorial Highway, Smithtown, NY. The event offers both in-person and virtual participation options, and a virtual entry can include mailed race gear and a shirt.

The course runs through park trails and state park lands with a mixture of sand, dirt roads, hard-packed trails and some pavement. Park bathrooms are located within a few minutes walk of the start and finish. Hydration will be provided at the finish line.

The park is dog friendly. Dogs must be on a leash at all times, should not be left unattended, and participants with dogs are asked to start at the back of the pack for safety. An informal bag check area will be available in the staging area but event organizers do not take responsibility for personal belongings.

Primary parking is at Picnic Areas 1-5 accessed about one half mile into the park from the Veterans Highway entrance. Secondary parking is available near the boat launch, and additional parking can be found near the dog park and immediately upon entering the park.

A portion of event proceeds benefits Last Chance Animal Rescue. Online recognition is planned for top finishers overall and by multiple age groups. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
