Long Island 6 Hour 60th Birthday Celebration Run and Relay

The Long Island 6 Hour 60th Birthday Celebration Run and Relay is a time-based running event held in memory of Fred von der Heydt and also honoring Nick Palazzo and Bob Sherman. The event takes place on September 27, 2026 at Belmont Lake State Park in West Babylon, NY.

Participants compete as individuals or on teams to cover the most mileage during six hours. Team formats include four-person and six-person relays; teams and individuals may run or walk as many or as few loops as they choose. The course is a mostly flat, scenic route on a friendly dirt path around Belmont Lake, organized as a 1.50 mile loop with an aid station every 1.50 miles. A short loop will be used for the final 30 minutes of the event.

Event amenities include commemorative crewneck sweatshirts for registrants, commemorative hooded sweatshirts for those born in 1966, personalized bibs if registered three weeks in advance, live/text/email results, and free finish line and course photos. Medals are awarded to runners who complete at least 26.2 miles, and awards are given to top overall finishers and top relay teams. A portion of proceeds is donated to the Nassau County Firefighters Museum and the Northport Running Club Youth Program. Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
