Ian Charlesworth Hartcliff Hill

The Ian Charlesworth Hartcliff Hill fell race takes place on Tuesday 28 April 2026. It is a Category BS fell race that starts and finishes on the playing fields in Penistone next to the Bowling Club. From 2026 the race is named after Ian Charlesworth. The event moved from its previous start near Langsett reservoir due to parking restrictions.

Course and entry

The course is 7.4 km / 4.6 miles with 216 m / 709 ft of ascent. The route runs over a mixture of fields and rough tracks with three short sections on asphalt. The course is marked and marshalled, so navigation is not required, but runners are asked to familiarise themselves with the route. A new route was introduced for 2025.

Registration takes place at Penistone Bowling Club (grid ref SE244032). Minimum age to enter is 17 on 31 December 2026. Pre-entry will be available for £6; entry on the day is available for £8. Team scoring uses the first three male and first three female finishers, lowest total positions. There are no junior races. The race holds a permit and associated UK Athletics insurance from the Fell Runners Association. Recent course records for the current configuration include 27:48 (male, 2025) and 34:24 (female, 2025). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
