Event overview
The Hardmoors 26.2 White Horse Trail Marathon takes place on Sunday 10 May 2026 at Sutton Bank Visitor Centre, near Thirsk, North Yorkshire. The event uses circular trail courses and offers multiple distances with downloadable maps, route descriptions and GPX files. Courses are not taped or signed so competitors must navigate themselves. There will be foot sweepers and strategic checkpoints; competitors who miss time cutoffs may be retired at checkpoints and assisted back to the start. Finishers are scanned and receive a medal.
- Marathon: ~28–29 miles, ascent ~3400 feet
- Half Marathon: ~16.5–17 miles, ascent ~1900 feet
- Trail 10k: 8 miles, ascent ~1600 feet
Time limits are set for each distance: 9 hours for the marathon, 6 hours for the half marathon and 4 hours for the 10k.
Entry, kit and rules
Entries open in July 2025 for various entry groups and close in mid-April 2026. The event has a field limit (250) and age minimums: marathon 18+, half marathon 16+, 10k 10+. Entry fees are listed per distance, with an optional event T-shirt available for purchase.
Mandatory kit must be carried throughout the event. For marathon and half marathon this includes a waterproof jacket, hat and gloves, printed route description and map, capacity to carry 500 ml fluid, survival bag, foil blanket and means to attach the race number. The 10k requires a printed route description and map, survival bag, foil blanket and race-number attachment; carrying a waterproof and fluid is highly recommended. The event is cupless so competitors should bring a cup. Dogs are not permitted.
