Hardmoors 26.2 White Horse Trail Marathon

The event takes place on Sunday 10 May 2026 at Sutton Bank Visitor Centre, near Thirsk in North Yorkshire, and is held under an ARC permit (26/0023). The field is limited to 250 entrants.

There are three trail distances with associated ascent and time limits:

  • 29 miles equivalent distance with about 3400 feet ascent and a 9 hour cutoff
  • 16.5 miles equivalent distance with about 1900 feet ascent and a 6 hour cutoff
  • 8 miles equivalent distance with about 1600 feet ascent and a 4 hour cutoff

Courses are not taped or signed except in very tricky places. Competitors must download, print and carry the provided route description and maps; GPX files are also available. Navigation is the competitor's responsibility.

Mandatory kit differs by distance. Marathon and half marathon mandatory items include a waterproof jacket, hat and gloves, printed route description and map, capacity to carry 500 ml fluid, survival bag, foil blanket and means to attach the race number. The 10k requires a printed route description and map, survival bag, foil blanket and means to attach the race bib. Failure to carry mandatory kit may result in disqualification.

Prices include a £1 donation to the Cleveland Way National Trail. Sample entry fees are: Marathon £49 attached (£51 unattached), Half Marathon £36 attached (£38 unattached), 10k £28 attached (£30 unattached). A race T-shirt is available for £10. Run through the North York Moors at the Heartbeat Hobble in Goathland, an 11.9 km fell with 290 m of climb. Entry on the day and a village hall finish create a friendly spring fell outing.

Experience a 36 mile ultra distance event through the stunning Esk Walk Valley with 4487 feet of elevation. This circular route starts and finishes in Glaisdale and is open to both runners and walkers.

Classic fell race through the North York Moors on Sunday 3 May 2026, 15 km with about 605 m of climb from Fryup Gill near Whitby. Entry on the day makes it ideal for spontaneous runners and teams seeking a rugged challenge.

Pretty Muddy 5k at The Knavesmire, York on 3 May 2026 is an obstacle course where participants climb, crawl and slide while raising funds for cancer research. The event has wave starts, on-site parking, and a minimum fundraising target.
