Trail Layout and Experience
The Greensand Way Ultra Run is a guided trail experience covering a distance of 30 miles. The route starts and finishes at West Hanger, near Guildford in Surrey. This is a non-competitive event where participants run together in a group led by an experienced guide and coach.
The course begins by following the North Downs Way past Box Hill before transitioning south to the Greensand Way. This section of the trail heads west, taking runners through several geographical landmarks. A significant portion of the route involves ascending Leith Hill, which is the highest point in South East England. The path continues over multiple summits including Pitch Hill and Holmbury Hill, which provide views across the southern landscape. The final segment of the loop heads north through Shere to return to the starting location.
Technical Details and Requirements
This event is organized as a guided run rather than a race, focusing on shared experience and educational opportunities regarding ultra running. The following distance is available:

Participants are expected to have a fitness level that allows for a sustained average pace of 10 min/miles (6 min/km) on trail terrain over long periods. It is recommended that runners have completed at least 22 miles in training prior to the event.
The start and finish location at West Hanger offers a car park for those driving. For those using public transport, the site is accessible via a short run or taxi ride from a nearby train station.
