Greenland Trail Races - Larkspur, Colorado
The Greenland Trail Races are a multi-distance trail running event held in May at Greenland Open Space in Larkspur, Colorado. The course lies within over 3,000 acres and follows parts of the Colorado Front Range Trail and the Old Territorial Road, passing native grasslands, ponds, rolling Gamble oak hills and ponderosa pine forests with views of Pikes Peak and nearby buttes.
Distances:
- 50K
- 25K
- 8 Mile
- 4 Mile
All routes run on dirt trails with wide, smooth double-track sections. The four mile course is approximately 4.25 miles. The Kipps Loop reaches the course high point at about 7,400 feet near five miles. The 25K and 50K complete multiple loops of the same circuit; the 50K uses the loop four times and the 25K twice. The 4M and 8M follow shorter variations to the shelter-area finish.
Aid stations are placed at roughly mile 3.5 and 7.5 of each loop; the four mile race has no aid stations. Aid stations supply water and Gatorade; gels are provided for 25K and 50K runners starting on the second lap, plus salty food items. A portable restroom is located at the southern edge of the course near the 3.5 mile aid station. Organizers suggest 25K and 50K runners carry refillable bottles to reduce waste.
Age and support rules: 50K entrants must be 18 or older. Pacers are allowed only on the final lap of the 50K. Crew access is limited to designated aid station locations. Drop bags may be left at a tarp near the north turnaround, about a quarter mile from the finish.
Registration includes a gender-specific technical shirt, a finisher medal, a belt buckle for 50K finishers, professional chip timing with a disposable bib tag, and free post-race photo downloads. A virtual entry option is available; virtual packets include a shirt, medal and bib and are shipped. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
