Greenland Trail Races
The Greenland Trail Races take place in the Greenland Open Space in southern Douglas County, Colorado. The event is held annually in May and features a variety of distances held on dirt trails within a 3,000-acre nature area. The course is part of the Colorado Front Range Trail and follows the Old Territorial Road, offering views of Pikes Peak, native grasslands, and ponderosa pine forests. For 2026, the event hosts the RRCA National 50K Championship.
Available distances include:
- 50K (Minimum age 18)
- 25K
- 8 Mile
- 4 Mile (Approximately 4.25 miles)
The routes consist of wide, smooth double-track trails. The 50K and 25K participants complete multiple laps of a loop that includes a high point of 7,400 feet at the saddle of the Kipps Loop Trail. Fully stocked aid stations are located at mile 3.5 and 7.5 of each loop, providing water and Gatorade. Gels and salty food items are available for the longer distances starting on the second lap.
Participants receive a gender-specific technical shirt and a finisher medal. Those completing the 50K receive a specialized belt buckle. The event features professional chip timing and free photo downloads. Post-race activities include an expo and pizza for runners. Awards are presented to the overall top finishers and the top three in various age groups for each distance.
The finish line has a fixed closing time of 3:00 PM. A hard cutoff is enforced for the 50K, requiring runners to start their final lap by 1:00 PM. Dogs are permitted to participate on leashes no longer than six feet, and strollers are allowed on the trail course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
