18th Annual Be Ovary Aware 5K run 3K walk

The 18th Annual Be Ovary Aware event is a community running and walking event in Colorado Springs that benefits Sue's Gift, a gynecologic cancer support organization. The event offers two distances:

  • 5K Run
  • 3K Walk

The course is described as scenic and flat, following Fountain Creek on the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail. It is an out-and-back route that begins and ends in America the Beautiful Park in downtown Colorado Springs.

Sue's Gift directs event proceeds to programs for people affected by gynecologic cancers. The organization operates a Financial Assistance Program that helps cover essential living expenses during treatment. A Peer Support Program trains survivors who are one year post-treatment to mentor people newly diagnosed with the same type of gynecologic cancer. The event materials note that strong emotional, social, and financial support is associated with better outcomes and lower rates of PTSD.

Registration involves fees for adults and youth, and youth may participate for free without paid participant benefits. Event T shirts are not included with basic registration; options include purchasing a shirt during registration, fundraising a specified amount to earn a shirt, or declining the shirt. Fundraising incentives include personalized lawn signs and banners at different giving levels. Additional event-day activities listed by the organizer include check in, yoga, opening remarks, a presentation with Fallen Heroes Tattoo, team fundraising recognition, and a survivors' photo.
