Barr Trail Mountain Race

The Barr Trail Mountain Race is a summer mountain running event on Colorado’s Front Range. The race began in 2000 and is held under a special use permit from the Pike National Forest. The next scheduled event date listed is Sunday, July 19, 2026. Registration for the 2026 race opens March 1, 2026. Results and race photos from 2025 are available.

Course and event details

The course is 12.6 miles. It starts at the Cog Railway Station in Manitou Springs at about 6,570 ft, ascends Pikes Peak’s Barr Trail to Barr Camp at about 10,200 ft, then turns and descends to finish at the Barr Trailhead. The race is cup-less on course, so participants must use a refillable cup or reservoir for hydration. The event is part of the Garden to Peak Challenge series, which also includes the Garden of the Gods 10-Mile Run and either the Pikes Peak Ascent or the Pikes Peak Marathon; completing the three races within the mandatory cut-off times makes participants eligible for awards and recognition.
