Barr Trail Mountain Race
The Barr Trail Mountain Race is a summer mountain running event held in Manitou Springs, Colorado. The out-and-back course covers 12.6 miles, beginning at the Cog Railway Station (6,570 ft), climbing Barr Trail to Barr Camp (10,200 ft), then returning to finish at the Barr Trailhead. The event is conducted under a special use permit from the Pike National Forest.
The race is part of a multi-race series called the Garden to Peak Challenge. Participants who complete the Garden of the Gods 10-Mile Run, the Barr Trail Mountain Race, and either the Pikes Peak Ascent or the Pikes Peak Marathon under the series cut-off times are recognized as Challenge participants and may be eligible for awards and special recognition.
Organizers note that the event operates as a cup-less race; competitors must use their own refillable cup or hydration reservoir on course. The race began in 2000 with the intention of bringing mountain-running athletes to compete on Pikes Peak.
Registration details for recent editions include structured entry periods with tiered fees and a stated policy that there are no waitlists, deferrals, or refunds. The race also offers Aid Station Sponsor slots where the full entry fee for those slots is distributed to local high school cross country teams participating in the aid station program.
