Green River Marathon

The Green River Marathon is an annual running event held in early June; the 2026 edition is scheduled for June 6, 2026 and is described as the 30th annual running. The route begins near the Green River and Interurban Trail in South Kent and finishes at Alki in Seattle in front of Spud's Fish and Chips. The course is described as very flat with two short hills late in the run; the final miles include views of Seattle and Puget Sound toward the Olympic Mountains.

Distances offered include:

  • Marathon (26.2 miles)
  • Half Marathon
  • Relay teams, flexible number of participants
  • 50K

The event is organized by volunteers and has historically operated with no formal entry fee, relying on donations to cover event costs and to support Northwest Harvest. Support along the course is limited and may vary by year; participants are advised to be prepared to carry their own supplies. Aid and timing arrangements have varied across editions. Very limited return transportation has been offered to runners who request it in advance, and participants have sometimes arranged carpools to return to the start.

The event is presented as low key and community oriented. Organizers and volunteers are not responsible for injuries or deaths; participants should consider their medical fitness and seek medical clearance before undertaking long distances.
