Green River Marathon
The Green River Marathon is an annual running event held in the Seattle area, typically scheduled for the first Saturday in June. The 2026 edition marks the 30th annual running of the event. The race is organized by a volunteer crew and operates as a low-key, community-focused run.
Participating runners can choose from several distances:
- 50K
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- Marathon Relay
The traditional marathon course starts at the intersection of the Green River Trail and the Interurban Trail in South Kent (Foster Park). The route is described as very flat with two short hills toward the end. Participants pass through areas with views of Seattle, Puget Sound, and the Olympic Mountains. The finish line is located at Alki Avenue SW in Seattle, in front of Spud's Fish and Chips.
The event does not have a standard entry fee; however, participants are encouraged to make a donation to Northwest Harvest. In previous years, medals were provided to runners who contributed a minimum donation. Registration requires sending an email to the organizers with personal details and predicted finishing times.
Participants should be aware that support is limited. Runners are required to carry their own water bottles as cups are not provided at aid stations. The relay option has no formal divisions and allows teams of various sizes to participate. Limited return transportation from the finish to the start may be available for those who coordinate in advance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
