Green River Marathon
The Green River Marathon is an annual community running event held in early June that includes multiple race options and a relay format. The course begins near the Green River trail and the Interurban trail in South Kent and finishes in Alki in Seattle in front of Spud's Fish and Chips. The route is described as very flat with two short hills late in the run and the final miles offer views of Seattle and Puget Sound toward the Olympic Mountains.
The event has been organized by volunteers and has been offered without an entry fee in some years. Donations have been collected for Northwest Harvest and, in 2020, medals were given to volunteers and to runners who donated. Chip timing was used in 2020 and results pages are maintained for each year.
Support along the course is limited; relay teams have traditionally helped with water and nutrition. About a quarter of participants have run as part of relay teams in past years. Restrooms are available at many parks along the route and limited return transportation has been offered to runners who request it in advance. Runners are advised to carry personal nutrition and fluids as needed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
