Great Southern Endurance Run

The Great Southern Endurance Run is a point to point 100K running event in the Atlanta area, with the official course starting at the top of Kennesaw Mountain and finishing at Stone Mountain just after the summit. The route crosses multiple parts of the city and passes a range of urban and natural landmarks.

Highlights along the course include two mountain summits, MLK's birthplace, Braves Stadium, Turner Field, the Governor's Mansion, and a short single-track section along the "hooch." The course travels southeast through Marietta toward the Chattahoochee River, runs parallel to I-75 for a segment, goes into Buckhead and Piedmont Park, passes through downtown Atlanta, and finishes by climbing Stone Mountain.

Terrain is typical for Atlanta with rolling hills; the largest climbs occur in the first mile and on the ascent of Stone Mountain. Most of the course is on sidewalks or bike paths, with a small amount of single-track trail and a few sections where runners must use a bike lane or road shoulder. The event includes approximately five aid stations and checkpoints. Participants navigate using traditional turn sheets and may also use GPX tracks. Organizers present the event as an urban adventure run and note that it attracts repeat participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
