Gold Coast Backyard Ultra
The Gold Coast Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra event held at Doug Jennings Park, Main Beach on The Spit, Gold Coast. Runners complete one yard each hour; one yard is 6.71 km. Each hour a new yard begins and runners who do not finish the yard or who do not start the next yard are out. The race continues until one person remains. Total distance is unlimited.
The marked course mixes road, grass, trail and beach surfaces. Elevation per loop is recorded as 16 m ascent and 19 m descent. The event offers individual and team options. Team entries are formed of four runners; clubs may enter multiple teams. Each team receives one free entry between the four members, described as a 25% entry reduction. Team results combine the yards completed by all four runners for a collective score.
Entries open July 1. Early bird entry for the first 100 entries is listed at $220. Regular entry is listed at $250 until places are sold out. Entries are capped at 300 places.
Included with entry are a finishers medal, free race day photos, communal snacks and hydration, and access to a recovery zone with ice baths, foam rollers and recovery boots. Runners who complete more than 24 yards (about 160 kilometres) are entered into a sponsor prize draw. Prizes are listed for the last person standing and for assist roles.
