Gold Coast Backyard Ultra

The Gold Coast Backyard Ultra is an endurance event held on March 13, 2027, at Doug Jennings Park, Main Beach, Gold Coast. The format requires each participant to complete one "yard" of 6.7 km every hour; the next yard starts on the hour and the race continues until only one person remains. Total distance is unlimited.

The marked course mixes road, grass, trail and beach surfaces. Recorded elevation for the loop is 16 m ascent and 19 m descent. A GPX file will be available on request, but course marking means navigation on the day is not required.

Entry details: entries open July 1. Early bird fee for the first 100 entries is $220; regular entry is $250. Field size is capped at 300 places. Entry benefits listed for entrants include a finishers medal, free race day photos, communal snacks and hydration, and a recovery zone with ice baths, foam rollers and recovery boots. Runners who complete more than 24 yards (about 160 km) are entered into a sponsor voucher draw. Prizes are offered for the last person standing and for an assist award.

A team challenge is offered for run clubs: teams of four compete as individuals while combining yards for a collective score. Each team receives one free entry shared among its members. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
