Gleaners Hunger Free Summer Race

Gleaners Community Food Bank hosts the second annual Hunger Free Summer race day on June 20, 2026, at Freedom River in Brighton, Michigan. The event supports the Hunger Free Summer campaign, which helps provide meals to children and families when school is out. Gleaners can provide three meals for every dollar donated, and a match from Citizens and other donors increases that to six meals for each dollar raised through registrations or donations.

The event offers two distances:

  • 5K Run - 3.1 miles, timed, cross country type course with trails, fields, pavement and slight hills
  • 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk - 1 mile, untimed

Awards include Running Lab gift certificates for Overall Male and Female finishers and Overall Master Male and Female winners, plus top three in age groups for both sexes in standard age brackets. Team awards acknowledge the Largest Team, the Most Spirited Team, and the Largest Fundraising Team. The 5K is chip timed and results are managed by the Michigan Running Foundation with live updates during the event and posted afterward.

Early packet pickup is scheduled for June 18 at The Running Lab in Brighton. Race day packet pickup and the event take place at Freedom River. Plenty of onsite parking is available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
