Glacier Hills Ultra Trail Races
Glacier Hills Ultra takes place in Newton Hills State Park near Canton, SD. The event offers three trail race distances and uses a 10 kilometer loop through the park for all races. Each loop has roughly 850 feet of elevation gain, and races consist of multiple loops to reach the chosen distance.
Distances:
- 20K (2 loops)
- 30K (3 loops)
- 50K (5 loops)
All races start and finish at the same area near the picnic shelter, which also serves as the primary aid station. A full aid station is available at the start/finish each loop and additional water is provided around mile 4 of the loop. The course shares approximately four miles with multi-use horse trails; for the longest distance runners are encouraged to use horse camp parking to access a vehicle as an additional aid/drop bag location. Drop bags may be left on a tarp beside the aid station but must be labeled and are left at the runner's own risk.
The marked course includes signage, pin flags with reflective strips, tape, and volunteers. Trail conditions can include roots, rocks, sticks, dust, mud, and horse droppings. Packet pickup details are to be determined. Event organizers provide event swag, with a clothing order deadline noted in advance to manage inventory.
