Crazy Bear Ultra
The Crazy Bear Ultra takes place at the Great Bear Ski Valley in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The event is designed to celebrate the local trail and ultra community with a course that utilizes a combination of original trails and newer single-track paths built by Great Bear.
The race follows a 10k loop format, with participants completing multiple laps based on their selected distance. Each loop features nearly 1200 feet of elevation gain, including sections that traverse the ski hill. Participants can choose between the following distances:
- 50k (5 loops)
- 30k (3 loops)
- 20k (2 loops)
The start and finish lines are located in front of the Bear Den (Chalet). This central area serves as the main hub for the event, containing the primary aid station and a designated area for drop bags. Runners pass by this aid station at the conclusion of every 6-mile loop. While the frequent access to the aid station reduces the need for drop bags, a tarp is provided for those who wish to store specific food or clothing items.
All race categories conclude by 6:15 PM, resulting in an 8-hour cutoff for the 50k, a 6-hour cutoff for the 30k, and a 4-hour cutoff for the 20k. Participants who register by June 10th are guaranteed race swag featuring the event logo. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
