Event overview

The Duff Dog Backyard Ultra is a backyard-ultra format race held on October 11, 2025 at Blue Mounds State Park near Luverne, MN. The event uses an established loop trail system in the park. The course surface is approximately 95% grass, with some gravel and a short stretch on paved path. The runner support area includes shade and a shelter building, and there is nearby camping available just off the course for family and friends. The event format is “last runner standing.”

Course and rules

The course must be a loop of 4 miles 880 feet (6.7056 kilometers). A measured starting corral fits the entire field and remains the same size throughout the event; participants must be in the corral at the bell. Each loop starts precisely one hour after the previous start and must be completed within that hour to count. Except for restrooms, competitors may not leave the course during a loop. Common aid stations are allowed, but no personal aid may be used during a loop. No non-competitors are allowed on the course, including eliminated runners. Artificial aids, including trekking poles, are not permitted. Timing of loops is optional. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; if no runner completes one more loop than everyone else, there is no winner. The race is open ended with no cap.
