Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra
The Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra is a 57 miles event with approximately 231 m of elevation, staged between Glasgow and Edinburgh in October. The route follows the River Kelvin, Sustrans Route 754, the Forth and Clyde Canal, the Union Canals and the Water of Leith and passes landmarks such as the Falkirk Wheel and the Antonine Wall. Terrain is mainly canal towpath, tarmac and concrete, and the course is waymarked with biodegradable tape and signage.
The event includes live online GPS tracking provided by GB Race Tracker and issues a GPS tracker as mandatory kit. Organisers require participants to carry specified mandatory items at all times, including a waterproof coat with sealed seams, a long sleeved base layer, at least 1 litre of water, a charged mobile phone, a foil blanket, a headtorch of minimum 75 lumens plus a backup light, a whistle and the race GPS tracker. Random kit checks are carried out.
Entrants must be at least 20 years old, in good health and have completed an organised marathon distance previously. The event operates a 16 hour overall cut off and enforces checkpoint cut-off times; failure to check in at required checkpoints will result in disqualification. Medals are awarded by finishing position bands and additional trophies are presented to the top three male and top three female finishers. Parking at the start is pay and display and finish venue parking is limited. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
