Foy's to Blacktail Trail Marathon

Kalispell, United States • 21 Jun 2026

Event

The Foy's to Blacktail Trail Marathon is a planned trail race on June 21, 2026, with registration opening January 1, 2026. Entry is limited to the first 100 registrants. All entry fee proceeds support the Foy's to Blacktail Trails Organization for trail maintenance, outreach, maps, and signage. The event is part of the Flathead Race Series.

Course and logistics

The course is a 26-mile route on mostly single-track trails with more than 5,000 feet of total climbing. The first ~2,800 feet of climbing occur in just over 5 miles to the top of Blacktail Mountain; the remaining ~21 miles include more than 2,000 feet of additional climbing while descending the long ridge to the finish at Herron Park. There is no vehicle access (except emergency vehicles) for the last 14 miles.

Five aid stations are located roughly at:

  • ~5 miles at the summit lodge of Blacktail Mountain (bathroom access)
  • ~13 miles at Emmons Saddle (outhouse access)
  • ~17.5 miles near Stoltze Corner
  • ~21 miles just north of Chase Overlook
  • ~24 miles near Foy's Overlook

Aid stations will provide water and food with support from Skratch Labs and Hammer Nutrition. Cell coverage is mostly present but not guaranteed; volunteers will carry phones and radios. Wildlife is present along the trail; participants are required to carry bear spray and running with headphones is strongly discouraged. There is a strict cutoff to reach Emmons Saddle (approximately a 25-minute per mile pace); transportation is available back to Herron Park for those who do not make this cutoff. Bib pick-up is available beforehand at Flathead Running Company, 132 S. Main Street, Kalispell, and race shirts are distributed at the finish.
