Big Mountain Run

The Big Mountain Run is an annual uphill run or hike to the summit of Big Mountain at Whitefish Mountain Resort in Whitefish, MT. The 44th edition is scheduled for July 25, 2026. Participants cover 3.8 miles with approximately 2,200 ft of elevation gain from the base to the summit.

Registrants receive a lift pass to ride down after reaching the top; dogs may participate when leashed but dogs are not permitted on the lift. Awards and recognitions are presented for overall top finishers, junior winners, and special categories including King and Queen of the Mountain, Prince and Princess for juniors 16 and under, Top Dog for the fastest leashed dog, Oldest Runner, and Youngest Runner. The event also includes a Birthday Club with age-based finish rewards and an awards ceremony held on the deck of the Summit House following the race. Raffle prizes and post-race snacks are provided at the summit.

Entry fees vary by age. Early registration for ages 17 and older is $35 with a higher day-of rate; juniors (16 and under) have a $20 fee. Online registration closes the evening before the race; day-of registration is available at the Danny On Trailhead for an additional $5 per person.
