Five Rivers Ultra

The Five Rivers Ultra is a point-to-point trail event along the Suffolk and Essex coast. It offers three distances:

  • 100 miles: circumnavigates five estuaries, 32 hour time limit.
  • 50 miles: point-to-point coastal route, 24 hour time limit.
  • 50 km: marked latter stages, 9 hour time limit.

The route passes through the Dedham Vale and Suffolk Coast & Heaths Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and follows sections of established trails. More than 85% of the course is on soft dirt trail and much of it is relatively flat, with estuary waters frequently in view. The full 100 mile course starts near Blaxhall Village Hall and finishes at the Red Buoy outside the 1912 Centre in Harwich.

Support is provided at regular checkpoints with snacks, water and indoor checkpoints offering drop bag access and hot food and drinks. All competitors carry a GPS tracker for safety and live tracking. A mandatory kit list is required and will be checked; failure to carry required items can lead to disqualification. Entry rules follow UK Athletics guidance: competitors must be at least 20 years old. Specific prior-distance requirements apply to each distance.

A portion of entry fees was donated to the River Stour Trust in 2025. The event is organised by a new team and the 2026 edition is planned for 16 and 17 May 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
