Five Rivers Ultra : East Anglia coastal ultra and trail events

The Five Rivers Ultra is a continuous point-to-point trail event along the North Essex and South Suffolk coastline. It uses sections of established long-distance footpaths and passes through the Dedham Vale and Suffolk Coast & Heaths Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The route is largely flat, with sparkling estuary views and over 85% running on grass or dirt trail.

The event offers three distances:

  • 100 miles - full circumnavigation of five coastal estuaries
  • 50 miles - long coastal and estuary route
  • 50 km - shorter coastal route, to be waymarked

All competitors are issued GPS trackers for safety and spectator tracking. Regular support is provided with checkpoint snacks and indoor checkpoints offering access to drop bags, hot food and drinks; a warm meal is provided at the finish. Drop bag facilities and a limited number of hostel beds are available for longer-distance entrants. The 50 km route will be waymarked and GPX files are available for all distances, but competitors remain responsible for navigation.

There is a mandatory safety kit list which is checked at registration and may be checked during the event. Entry rules include a minimum age of 20 and prior trail-distance experience requirements for the 100 mile and 50 mile entries. The event is held under Trail Running Association and England Athletics licensing and is listed as a UTMB 100M index event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
