FATS, Forks Area Trail System, North Augusta SC
FATS is a trail running event at the Forks Area Trail System in Sumter National Forest near North Augusta, SC on November 1, 2026. The event offers the following distances:
- 50K
- Half Marathon
- 10K
The course uses three primary loops named Great Wall, Skinny, and Brown Wave. The 50K repeats the Great Wall loop to reach the full distance. Trails are almost entirely single-track, shaded, rolling terrain with roots and rocks. Course turns will be marked and colored trail markers are used: Bright Red for Great Wall, Blue for Skinny, and Orange for Brown Wave.
Aid stations are staffed and supplied with fluids, fuel, and snacks; there are also two water-only drops on course. The event is cup free so runners should plan their own handheld hydration. Drop bags are allowed at primary aid stations (Aid Stations 1, 3, and 4) and should be labeled with name and bib number; no drop bags at Aid Station 2.
Parking at the start area is limited with overflow parking available and parking directors to guide vehicles. Pets are not allowed at the race. The trails are public and runners may encounter mountain bikers or hikers, and should yield when appropriate. The event has a wet trail policy that may move the route to forest service roads or result in cancellation with no refunds; proceeds in that case are directed to trail maintenance.
