The event is described as grassroots with a low environmental impact. The course is marked at specific turns since nearly all of it is single-track. No pacers or crews are permitted; spectators may gather at the start and finish area. Aid stations number between three and five depending on the distance, spaced roughly every 5 to 7 miles. The event is cup-free so participants must carry their own handheld hydration; aid stations typically offer water, TailWind, soft drinks, snacks, fruit, chips, salt and potatoes, and PB&J sandwiches. Drop bags for 40 milers are collected at check-in and transported to aid stations at about miles 22 and 34.
Parking is limited and accessed via a rugged gravel road; a large field is used for parking near the start and finish. Entry fees are nonrefundable. The event was cancelled in 2025 and 2026 after local trail damage from Hurricane Helene. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
