Event overview

The Essex XC Championships will take place on 3 January 2026 at Gloucester Park, Basildon, SS14 3GR. Entries close on 21 December 2025. The courses will be multi-lap and described as fairly challenging; course maps will be shared closer to the event. The U11 race is a non-championship race and Essex county medals will not be awarded for that event. Distances listed are approximate.

Races, eligibility and rules

  • U11 girls and boys - 1.5 km (ages 9 or 10 on 31 Aug 2025)
  • U13 girls - 3.1 km (ages 11 or 12 on 31 Aug 2025)
  • U13 boys - 3.1 km (ages 11 or 12 on 31 Aug 2025)
  • U15 girls - 4.3 km (ages 13 or 14 on 31 Aug 2025)
  • U15 boys - 4.3 km (ages 13 or 14 on 31 Aug 2025)
  • U17 women - 5.2 km (ages 15 or 16 on 31 Aug 2025)
  • U17 men and U20 women - 6.1 km (men 15 or 16; women 17-19 on 31 Aug 2025)
  • Senior women and U20 men - 8 km (women 20 or older; men 17-19 on 31 Aug 2025)
  • Senior men - 12 km (men 20 or older on 31 Aug 2025)

Senior women and U20 men should be capable of finishing the 8 km in 65 minutes (8:00 min/km pace). Senior men who have not completed 8 km (two of three laps) in 50 minutes (6:25 min/km pace) will be asked to retire. Team medals are four to score for all age groups excluding U11; senior men are six to score. The event will be held under UKA Rules. Entrants must be members of England Athletics, hold current Athlete registration, and be eligible for Essex Championships by birth or by continuous residence in Essex for nine months prior to the event. Trail runs nearby

Race the Trifarm Winter 10k, the final round of a four event trail series at Trifarm near Boreham. Enjoy a mostly off road clockwise route away from the river and a championship deciding atmosphere with just 50 places available.

Join a regional colour coded orienteering event at Highwoods Country Park, Colchester on Sunday 7 December with courses for all abilities up to a 7.0 km Blue course. Enjoy woodland and grassland terrain, waterproof maps and a friendly vibe.

Join the Phoenix Running Bobble Wobble Run at Crystal Palace Park for a timed multi lap challenge on park trails. Run as many 1.65 mile laps as you can in seven hours and collect a finishers medal and Phoenix bobble hat.

Take part in the Essex Vets XC Championships on 13 December 2025 in Epping Forest for a tough and scenic 8k on forest trails. Veteran races and team prizes across age groups; entries online only until 7 December.
