Pitsea RC Crown to Crown 5k
The Pitsea RC Crown to Crown is a measured 5 km trail race held at Westley Heights Country Park. This event serves as the first race in a seven part off-road series scheduled throughout the year. The course consists primarily of bridleways and trails, with some tarmac sections included. Because of the tarmac surfaces, running spikes are not suitable for this event.
The route begins on Beeleigh Avenue and proceeds onto Lee Chapel Lane. Runners then complete a loop through the Essex Wildlife Trust Willow Park before returning to the finish area at the Westley Heights Car Park. The event is held under UK Athletics rules with a permit from the TRA.
Facilities and safety measures include:
- Course marshals and a tail runner
- First aid stations on the course and at the finish line
- Water provided at the finish
- On-site toilets
The race uses a mass start for all age groups and timing is recorded from the gun to the finish rather than using electronic chips. Registration is open to individuals aged 12 and over, though participants under 18 must use a specific entry form. The event does not permit dogs, pushchairs, or the use of standard headphones; only bone conductive headphones are allowed.
Parking is available but limited at the venue, located at the rear of the Miller and Carter Crown Public House. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
