Empire Ranch Trail Run

The Empire Ranch Trail Run is a trail running and walking event held at the Historic Empire Ranch in the Las Cienegas National Conservation Area near Sonoita, Arizona. The event is produced by Run Tucson in partnership with the Empire Ranch Foundation and the Bureau of Land Management. It serves as part of the Empire Ranch Foundation's 150th anniversary activities and is linked to America's 250th anniversary observances.

The course uses wide dirt trails, cattle paths, and the grounds of the historic ranch across rolling grasslands. Multiple distance options are offered, including:

  • 10 km trail run
  • 5 km run/walk
  • 1 mile family-friendly walk/run
  • 1 mile children's 10-and-under event
  • Parent's one-mile for adults accompanying children

Some entries include a souvenir shirt, while shorter family races note no formal overall or age-group prizes. Registrants for certain races receive a souvenir bib and an official time; one-mile participants may receive a finisher's video. The event raises funds to protect and sustain the Empire Ranch historical buildings and landscape as a western heritage and education center.
