Colossal Vail 50/50

Held Saturday, December 5, 2026, the Colossal Vail 50/50 is an ultra running event on portions of the Arizona Trail near the community of Vail, about 24 miles southeast of Tucson. The event starts and finishes at Colossal Cave Mountain Park.

The event offers multiple distances:

  • 50 Mile
  • 55K
  • Half Marathon

The courses use sections of the Arizona National Scenic Trail between Saguaro National Park and the foothills of the Santa Rita Mountains. The terrain is described as gentle and rolling with wide open vistas and purpose built trail; the course was designed by members of the Tucson Trail Runners as a relatively fast trail ultra on rolling terrain.

Support at the event includes well stocked aid stations and comprehensive emergency communications. Participants receive event swag and finish line food. The event operates as a cupless race to reduce waste and attract fewer insects; reusable cups are available for purchase at packet pickup or through the race registration system, or participants may bring their own.

The Colossal Vail 50 Miler is the first event of three in the Southern Arizona Triple 50. The race is presented by Fleet Feet Tucson; the inaugural Colossal Vail event took place in 2014. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
