Colossal Vail 50/50
The Colossal Vail 50/50 is an ultra trail run near Vail, Arizona, presented by Fleet Feet Tucson. The event takes place on portions of the Arizona Trail and starts and finishes at Colossal Cave Mountain Park, roughly 24 miles southeast of Tucson. Courses run on trail between Saguaro National Park and the foothills of the Santa Rita Mountains.
The event offers multiple course options:
- 50 Mile
- 55K
- Half-Marathon
The route uses gently rolling terrain and sections of well-built trail. The course was designed by experienced members of the Tucson Trail Runners with an emphasis on relatively fast trail ultrarunning and open desert scenery. Aid stations are described as well stocked and the event includes comprehensive emergency communications, finish line food, and participant swag.
This is a cupless event; reusable cups are available for purchase or participants may bring their own. The Colossal Vail 50 Miler also serves as the first event in the Southern Arizona Triple 50 series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
