Elk Valley Ultra, Fernie BC, July 25 and 26, 2026

Elk Valley Ultra is an organized trail event in Fernie, British Columbia, featuring a main 50 km race and an optional 15 km add-on called the Headwall Hustle the following day. The 50 km course starts and finishes at James White Park and includes approximately 3,000 m of ascent. The route is presented in three legs: Leg 1 climbs over Mt. Fernie, follows Rocky Road to Island Lake Lodge and passes through an old growth forest; Leg 2 follows the old Rail Trail, climbs Gorby and uses loamy provincial park trails; Leg 3 adds another climb across the front of Mt. Fernie and finishes with a steep descent. The course may change based on land use permissions.

The Headwall Hustle takes place at Fernie Alpine Resort, covers 15 km with about 840 m of ascent, and travels through Cedar Bowl toward the Headwall before traversing into Timber Bowl and descending to the finish.

Registration and event details: the 50 km field is limited to 200 racers. Registration closes July 15, 2026. Categories are Male, Female and Non-Binary with age groups including under 19, 19-49 and 50 plus; under 19 runners must get permission from the Race Director before registering. The event includes fully stocked aid stations, finisher medals and category trophies, free racer photography, a finish line barbecue and a donation to the Fernie Trails Alliance. Sinister 7 Ultra in Crowsnest Pass Alberta runs July 11-12 2026. Events range from a half marathon to a seven stage 100 mile course across Rocky Mountain trails with transition areas, aid stations and time limits.

Sole Survivor Trail Race on July 18, 2026 features 2.5 km, 5 km and 10 km forest trail courses at Pete's Park in Blairmore. Aid stations vary by distance and strollers and pets are not permitted.

A 15 km trail segment at Fernie Alpine Resort featuring climbs through Cedar Bowl and a steep descent via Timber Bowl; registration requires a prior RCR waiver and the 15 km field is limited.
