Elk Valley Ultra

Elk Valley Ultra is a trail race in Fernie, British Columbia, now in its sixth year. The main event is a 50 km course with 3,000 m of ascent, starting and finishing at James White Park. The route is described in three legs: Leg 1 climbs over Mt. Fernie, follows Rocky Road to Island Lake Lodge and passes through the Old Growth Forest; Leg 2 follows the old Rail Trail, climbs Gorby and runs through loamy Provincial Park trails; Leg 3 includes a climb across the front of Mt. Fernie and a steep descent to the finish.
A combo option includes the Headwall Hustle the following day. That route is 15 km with 840 m of ascent, starting and finishing at Fernie Alpine Resort, and traverses ski hill terrain via Cedar Bowl to the base of the Headwall then across Timber Bowl for the descent.
- 50 km: 3,000 m ascent, start and finish at James White Park

The 50 km field is limited to 200 racers. Categories include Male, Female and Non-Binary and age groups <19, 19-49 and 50+. Youth under 19 must contact the Race Director before registering. Registration closes July 15. Event amenities include a race shirt, finish line BBQ and beer, finisher medals and top-3 trophies, free racer photography, fully stocked aid stations, and a donation to the Fernie Trails Alliance. Mandatory check-in and waiver signing occur the day before at Park Place Lodge. Awards take place at James White Park at a time to be determined.
