HARC Hike for Hunger and Hope
The Hagerstown Area Religious Council organizes an annual fundraising hike with multiple options across May 2026. The program supports HARC programs, with a significant portion of proceeds directed to Micah’s Backpack and the Refugee Welcome Network. Individual fundraising will be matched 2-to-1 by the God’s Grace Fund.
Participants may choose from multiple routes:
- 20-mile Appalachian Trail one way from Boonsboro Mountain Road to Pen Mar Park
- 10-mile Appalachian Trail one way with a half way lunch stop
- 5K Canal hike on the C&O Canal towpath in Williamsport
- 10K Canal hike on the C&O Canal towpath in Williamsport
The Challenge Hike is a supported, one way Appalachian Trail route with shuttles to start points and support along the trail including a light breakfast, a hearty lunch, water and Gatorade refills, and snacks. Canal hikes are fully supported along the towpath, conclude at Zion Lutheran Church in Williamsport, and include a post hike lunch, a nature scavenger hunt, and refreshments on the route. All participants receive trail support; those who finish the full 20 mile challenge receive recognition on a Wall of Fame and all challenge finishers receive a certificate and group photo.
A virtual participation option allows people to complete a hike on a date of their choice before the event. Registration deadlines and early registration discounts apply for selected event options. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
