Catoctin 50k Trail Run

Frederick, United States • 20 Jun 2026

Event Overview

The Catoctin 50k Trail Run takes place in June. It offers two distances: a 50k (approximately 32 miles) and a 25k called the "Half Cat." The event is held in Cunningham Falls State Park and Gambrill State Park near Thurmont and Frederick, Maryland.

Course Details

The 50k is an out-and-back course on the Catoctin Blue Trail. It starts at the Manor parking area and proceeds south through the parks to High Knob, then returns. The Half Cat starts at the High Knob turnaround point and runs to the Manor finish. The trail is described as rocky, slow, difficult, and demanding but runnable. It is almost entirely shaded and features several stream crossings. The trail is permanently marked with light blue blazes; no additional race markings are provided.

Race Logistics

Bib pickup for both races begins at 6:30 AM at the Manor. The 50k starts at 8:00 AM, and the Half Cat starts at 9:00 AM at High Knob, with buses transporting runners from the Manor. Both races have a final cutoff at 5:30 PM. There are three aid stations along the course (Delauter Rd., Hamburg Rd., and High Knob), providing six total aid opportunities. All runners must carry at least one 20 oz water bottle; carrying two is recommended.

Important Rules

Crews are only permitted at the Start/Finish (Manor), Hamburg Rd., and High Knob aid stations. Pacing, companion runners, and mountain bikers are not allowed. Parking is limited, and a $10 cash fee may apply for solo drivers to encourage carpooling; proceeds go to the Frederick Civitan Organization. The event includes a post-race meal catered by "aka Friscos." A 75% refund is available until May 19; no refunds, deferrals, or bib transfers are allowed after that date.
