Catoctin 50k Trail Run & Half Cat : Frederick, MD

This is a trail event in Cunningham Falls State Park and Gambrill State Park near Frederick, MD, offered in two distances:

• 50K
• 25K

The course is an out-and-back on the Catoctin Blue Trail with rocky, technical terrain, substantial tree cover, and several stream crossings. The 50K starts and finishes at the Manor parking area and turns at High Knob; the Half Cat starts at High Knob and finishes at the Manor area. The trail is permanently blazed with light blue marks and is not marked with temporary ribbons or chalk.

Field limits are set for each distance and registration includes park fees. A 2026 permanent watershed re-route will add roughly ten minutes to typical finishing time while aid station and finish cutoffs remain unchanged. Carrying hydration is mandatory: entrants must present hydration equipment at bib pickup and must carry at least one 20 oz water bottle; carrying two bottles is recommended.

There are three aid stations providing six service opportunities on course, stocked with water, sports drink, snacks, fruit and basic electrolytes; pharmaceutical needs are the runner’s responsibility. Crews are allowed only at designated locations; crews elsewhere will result in disqualification. There are restroom facilities at Manor and High Knob and participants are asked to leave no litter.
