Catoctin 50k Trail Run

Catoctin 50k Trail Run and Half Cat : June 20, 2026, Frederick, MD

The event offers two trail distances:

• 50K
• 25K (Half Cat)

Both races use an out-and-back course on established singletrack through Cunningham Falls State Park and Gambrill State Park. The trail is rocky and technical but runnable, mostly shaded under tree canopy, and includes several stream crossings. The route is permanently blazed with light blue paint; the course will not be marked with engineer ribbons or chalk.

Three aid stations provide six aid opportunities (not including start/finish). Stations are stocked with water, soda, Tailwind sports drink, cookies, pretzels, chips, candy, bananas and electrolyte supplements. Runners are responsible for their own medications.

Field limits are enforced: 50K limited to 200 entrants and 25K limited to 130 entrants. Registration closes June 16. A 75% refund is available if requested by May 19; no refunds after May 20. Park fees are included in registration.

Mandatory equipment includes hydration. All runners must carry at least one 20 oz water bottle; carrying two bottles is recommended. Hydration equipment must be presented at bib pickup for verification.

Crews are permitted only at the start/finish, at Hamburg Road aid station and at High Knob. Crews at other locations, pacers, or on-course companions are not allowed. Recent trail re-routing in the watershed adds 0.7 miles to the course and results in a total of 20 additional minutes added to the race cutoffs. Bathrooms are available at Manor and the High Knob turnaround. Post-race food is provided and beer is allowed in the pavilion area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
