Ed Poling Memorial HARC Hike for Hunger & Hope
The Hagerstown Area Religious Council organizes a series of supported fundraising hikes in May 2026. Two event dates are listed: a Challenge Hike on May 16, 2026, and 5K and 10K hikes on May 30, 2026. Registration is noted as coming soon and some registration deadlines apply.
Distances available
- Challenge Hike: 20 miles or 10 miles on the Appalachian Trail
- C&O Canal hikes: 5K (3 miles) and 10K (6.5 miles) on the C&O Canal towpath
All 5K and 10K hikes take place along the C&O Canal in Maryland and conclude at Zion Lutheran Church in Williamsport. Check-in location for hikers is Zion Lutheran Church, 35 W Potomac St, Williamsport, MD 21795. The 10K start point is at Dam Number 5 and participants will be shuttled to that start. The Challenge Hike is a one-way Appalachian Trail route beginning near Boonsboro Mountain Road and ending at Pen Mar Park with transportation provided back to vehicles.
Support along routes includes snack stops and water and Gatorade refills. Events include a post hike lunch and a celebration at Zion Lutheran Church. Fundraising proceeds benefit HARC programs with a significant portion to Micah’s Backpack and a portion to the Refugee Welcome Network. Prizes and recognition are offered for top fundraisers, and challenge participants receive a certificate and group photo. A virtual participation option is available for those who prefer to hike on a different date. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
