Cacapon 12 Hour Challenge
The event is a 12 hour trail run held in Berkeley Springs, WV at 818 Cacapon Lodge Drive. The course is a scenic single track arranged as a five mile loop that is described as moderately to very technical, with approximately 750 feet of elevation change per loop. The trail is classified as (4,4) on the Ultrarunning.com scale. The loop will be run in the same direction used the last two years, which is the opposite direction from earlier years.
The route includes a few road crossings on lightly traveled park roads. Some stream crossings may occur depending on recent rainfall. The trail is noted as well marked and maintained.
A full aid station at the start and finish offers Tailwind, water and various food items. A water and sports drink aid station is located about halfway around the loop. A post race meal is scheduled for mid afternoon.
This is the 14th year of the event and there is no price increase from the previous year. Handcrafted awards from a local artisan will go to the top three men and top three women. Solo runners who complete 10 loops are inducted into the Cacapon 50 Mile Club and receive a commemorative pint glass. Finisher awards are given to everyone who completes at least one loop.
