The Cacapon 12 Hour Challenge is a timed trail event held in Berkeley Springs, WV, at 818 Cacapon Lodge Drive. The event runs for 12 hours and is presented as the 14th edition. Registration closes Tue, Jun 23 at 11:59 PM ET. A post-race meal is scheduled for mid-afternoon.
Course and support
The course is a scenic single-track trail consisting of a five-mile loop. The trail is described as moderately to very technical and is rated (4,4) on the Ultrarunning.com scale. Each loop has approximately 750 feet of elevation change. There are a few road crossings on lightly traveled park roads, and some stream crossings may occur depending on recent rainfall. The loop will be run in the same direction as the last two years. A full aid station at the start/finish supplies Tailwind, water and various food items. There is an additional water and sports drink aid station about halfway around the loop. The trail is reported as well-marked and maintained.
Awards and achievements
Hand-crafted awards are given to the top three men and top three women. Solo runners who complete 10 loops become members of the Cacapon 50 Mile Club and receive a commemorative pint glass.
