Durisdeer Hill Race
Durisdeer Hill Race is held on open, pathless hill terrain in the Lowther Hills, Dumfries and Galloway. The unmarked route crosses open hillside and requires competitors to be experienced hill runners who are physically fit and able to navigate alone in all weather. Competitors must obey marshals, in particular at two road crossings where fast moving traffic can suddenly appear. Rubbish must not be dropped on the route.
The course is 16 km with 1200 m of climb. A cut-off of 1 hour 50 minutes is operated at the second road crossing for safety; competitors who are timed out there will be taken by vehicle back to the start. Water will be available at the road crossings and in the registration field at the end of the race; no disposable cups will be provided, so competitors must bring a refillable cup or bottle.
Entry is limited to 200 participants with a waiting list once the limit is reached. There may be limited entries on the day if places open up. The entry fee is £20 and entries are non-refundable. The event forms part of the West District Championship. Mandatory kit must be carried and will be checked: full body waterproof cover, hat, gloves, map of the route, compass, whistle, and a refillable water container. Limited event parking is available in grazing fields behind Durisdeer village; these areas are not suitable for motorhomes or larger campervans. Portaloos will be provided in the registration field. Registration fees include a donation to Moffat Mountain Rescue Team. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
