Course, aid and logistics

Both routes start in Sherwood Forest and follow marked trails, minor roads and footpaths. The route passes Creswell Crags, skirts the Welbeck Estate, crosses Clumber Park, goes through farmland and returns via the Thoresby area. The event is waymarked and marshalled, with first aid medics present.

Aid stations (approximate miles) include Hazel Gap, Cresswell Crags and the A614, with specific mile points differing for 30 and 40 mile options. The official overall cut-off is 10.5 hours; a cut-off point is enforced at the A614 aid station where competitors may be required to stop if they cannot complete the remaining 7 miles within the allotted time. Toilets are at headquarters and possibly on route. Drinks and basic refreshments are provided; finish provisions include hot soup, tea and coffee. Parking near the hall is limited.
