Dueling Banjos 5K & 10K : McMullen Cove, Huntsville, AL

The event pairs two distinct trail races at McMullen Cove Commons in Gurley near Huntsville. Competitors complete a steep uphill trail 5K that climbs more than 1,000 feet, then a separate 10K that descends with a net drop of more than 600 feet. Registration requires entry in both races to receive a bib.

Distances:

  • 5K - steep uphill trail with over 1,000 ft climb.
  • 10K - net downhill trail with more than 600 ft descent; chip timed.

The 5K has no on-course aid station; participants reach a staffed aid area at the top with tents, a large fire, food, water, electrolytes, and s'mores. The 10K includes one aid station halfway with water and electrolytes. The finish area is stocked with water, electrolytes, LMNT, and a chili and stew offering.

An optional combined 23K challenge pairs the morning trail races with an afternoon 8K road race for a total of 23 kilometers; finishers of all three events earn a special 23K prize. Packet pickup is available the day before at Fleet Feet and there is limited pickup at the clubhouse on race morning. The event takes place within a gated community with parking around the Commons clubhouse and volunteers directing vehicles. Proceeds benefit childhood cancer research and the McMullen Cove Trail Committee for trail maintenance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
