The Donkey Derby Days Pack Burro Race takes place on June 28, 2026 as part of the Donkey Derby Days festival held June 26-28. The festival has served as the primary fundraiser for the Two Mile High Club since 1931 and supports the Cripple Creek donkeys. The pack burro race is a professional pack burro event returning to Cripple Creek. The course is 6 mile in length with a Start/Finish at 172 E. Bennett Ave, Cripple Creek, CO 80813. Finish line operations include chip timing, communications with course checkpoints, hydration for both humans and burros, and first aid kits at checkpoints and the start and finish. Day-of parking and trailer parking are located at the Teller County Fairgrounds, which also hosts camping details. Traffic guards and staffed checkpoints will be placed along the route for traffic control and safety. Event start/finish crowd control will include ropes and signage about Colorado equine safety rules.

Additional activities at the Start/Finish include a Poop Drop contest with a cash prize, a timed poop pick up contest, and possible mini donkey races with entry fees and prizes. Race rules require a runner and one burro as a team, a packed prospector style saddle with required paraphernalia, a single lead rope not to exceed 15 feet, no riding, veterinary recommendations, and disqualification for mistreatment. No alcohol will be provided at the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
