2026 Royal Gorge Whitewater Festival
The Royal Gorge Whitewater Festival takes place July 17–18, 2026 at Centennial Park in Cañon City, Colorado. The event features whitewater competitions alongside land-based recreation and community activities. The festival emphasizes boats, bands, bikes, and beer and is held in the refurbished Centennial Park.
The program includes a range of activities for different experience levels, from beginner-friendly to experienced-only events. Offerings listed for the weekend include raft and kayak races, a raft rodeo judged by crowd and panel, SUP races and a SUP parade, a surfing competition on park features, build-your-own-boat and cardboard boat races, and a Weenie Dog Race. All event participants receive free entry to the festival on the day of their event.
Running and mountain bike events run from Centennial Park along local trails and the Arkansas Riverwalk. Event entries for the runs include timing, aid stations, and a bib; participants could add a t-shirt for an extra fee if they register by the stated deadline.
Distances for the running events include:
- 5 km Great Escape 5K Trail Run, leaving Centennial Park via the Arkansas Riverwalk.
- 10 km Great Escape 10K Trail Run, leaving Centennial Park and climbing Wagon Trail to Schepp Ridge.
Course notes: the 5K crosses the river on a pedestrian bridge and turns at the Trailhead, returning to the park. The 10K climbs Schepp Ridge, uses Piñon Trail to merge onto Recycle, then descends Mutton Bustin' back to the park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
