Rim to Rim Royal Gorge Races

The event features multiple race options held near the Royal Gorge Bridge and surrounding foothills.

  • 5K Road Run
  • 8 Mile Trail Run
  • Half Marathon Trail Run (13.1 miles)

The 5K road race follows scenic foothills near the Royal Gorge Bridge. The course includes uphill sections and a downhill finish and crosses the Royal Gorge Bridge before the finish line. Participants may choose to walk the 5K course.

The 8 mile trail run begins with a 0.7 mile approach to the Twisted Cistern trailhead. Runners then cover 1.6 miles on Twisted Cistern, a 3.1 mile loop on Made in the Shade, and a return ascent of Twisted Cistern before descending toward the Royal Gorge Bridge. This race is limited to 200 runners.

The half marathon runs 13.1 miles through varied terrain with rolling hills and descents and concludes at the Royal Gorge Bridge. This race is also capped at 200 runners.

Trail use is subject to a Trails Committee guideline for the City of Canon City; in cases of heavy rain or snowstorm the city may cancel the trail portion to protect the trails. If the trail portion is canceled, registrants will be offered an alternative 8 mile dirt road course using a previous 10K course.

A free kids race called the Dinosaur Dash is offered with costumes encouraged. The event also offers a virtual race option. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
