Rim to Rim Royal Gorge Races
Cañon City, United States • 3 Oct 2026
Overview
The Rim to Rim Royal Gorge Races take place in Canon City, Colorado, offering a selection of road and trail events within the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park. Participants have the opportunity to run across the Royal Gorge Bridge, one of the highest suspension bridges in the United States. The event functions as a benefit for Starpoint, a nonprofit organization assisting individuals with disabilities and their families.
Course Details
The event features several distinct distances, with both the road and trail races concluding with a crossing of the bridge:
- 13.1 Miles: A trail half marathon with approximately 2,000 feet of elevation gain, featuring downhill sections and trail views.
- 8 Miles: A trail race capped at 200 participants with 1,123 feet of elevation gain, utilizing the Twisted Cistern and Made in the Shade trails.
- 5K Road Run: A route primarily on dirt roads that includes a hill and views of the gorge before finishing across the bridge.
- Kids' Race: A 0.25-mile run across the Royal Gorge Bridge for children.
The 5K event is stroller-friendly. All races allow participants to bring dogs, provided they are friendly. In the event of inclement weather making the trails unrunnable, an alternate 8-mile dirt road route is utilized for both the trail half marathon and the 8-mile participants.
Experience and Amenities
Registration includes entry into the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park on the day of the race. The event also hosts a Toddler Trot, which takes place near the awards ceremony location rather than on the bridge itself. Virtual options are available for the 5K, 8-mile, and half marathon distances for those unable to attend in person. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
