Djouce - The Ayling Abyss

Djouce - The Ayling Abyss is a mountain running event in Djouce Woods, County Wicklow. The main route is approximately 12.20 km with about 633 m of climb; a junior/short course follows part of the main line through paddock ponds and forest and is about 4.6 km with 135 m of ascent. The route is fully marked and GPS use is allowed. The organiser rates the event difficulty as 8, reflecting moderate terrain, more than 500 m ascent and a distance over 10 km.

All competitors must carry mandatory Level B kit. Required items include a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, a charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. The exact kit to be carried may be finalised on the day and random kit checks may be carried out; failure to have required items may lead to denied entry or disqualification.

Entry is limited to 200 runners. Entry fees are €7 for seniors and €5 for over 65s and under 18s. Registration on the night is required and race chips and numbers are collected at registration and scanned before the race to allow accounting for all participants. Headphones are not permitted for safety reasons.

Getting to the event uses the Old Long Hill Road at Djouce Woods. Parking is limited at the main car park (grid ref 0213 131) with a second car park used when the first is full; car pooling is recommended. Prizegiving will take place at Berto's Pizzeria. A fully marked mountain run on Bray Head in County Wicklow with a 7.66 km main route (342 m climb) and a 4.00 km junior course; varied terrain, mandatory Level B kit, GPS allowed, entry limited to 250.

Tibradden in County Dublin on 29 April 2026 features fully marked mountain running routes of 9.90 km and 4.50 km with 365 m climb on the main course. Level B mandatory kit is required and GPS is not allowed.
