Djouce - The Ayling Abyss

Djouce - The Ayling Abyss is a mountain running event held in the Djouce woods within County Wicklow. The race features technical ground and forest terrain, with routes that have been adjusted to account for local storm damage. The course is fully marked and allows the use of GPS devices.

Participants can choose from two distinct distances:

  • 12.20 km long course with 633 meters of ascent
  • 4.65 km short course with 135 meters of elevation gain

The event follows specific safety protocols, requiring all runners to carry mandatory Level B kit. This equipment includes a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, a whistle, a charged mobile phone with an emergency number, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. Kit checks are conducted at registration to ensure compliance.

Registration and sign-in take place at the Djouce Woods car park on Old Long Hill Road. The official start and finish point is located 500 meters from the registration area at a junction on the fire road. Due to limited parking at the venue, carpooling is encouraged from nearby locations in Kilmacanogue. Post-race activities, including the prize-giving ceremony and a raffle, are held at a local pizzeria in the vicinity. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
