Sorrell Hill is a mountain running race in Wicklow. The date is Wednesday, 1 July 2026. The entry limit is 200 participants.

Course Details

The race is an out-and-back route to the summit of Sorrell Hill and back. It starts on a forest trail but quickly moves onto a slippery trail, finishing on open mountain. The total distance is 9.45 km with a climb of 392 meters. A separate Junior race and a 5 km short course are also offered, starting after the main event. Only major junctions are marked on the course, and GPS devices are allowed.

Mandatory Kit

All runners must bring specific items to the race for possible inspection. The required Level B kit includes a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, a whistle, a charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. Runners must have the means to carry all kit. The final decision on what must be carried during the race will be announced on event day based on conditions. Failure to have required items may lead to denied entry or disqualification.

Registration and Fees

Online registration opens on Monday, 29 June 2026. The entry fee is €7 for seniors and €5 for over 65s and under 18s. Registration closes on Wednesday, 1 July 2026. An early start is available at 19:00 for runners who typically finish near the back of the field.

Logistics

Trail runs nearby

Tibradden in County Dublin on 29 April 2026 features fully marked mountain running routes of 9.90 km and 4.50 km with 365 m climb on the main course. Level B mandatory kit is required and GPS is not allowed.

An open mountain race in the upper Dargle Valley with free-route navigation over four peaks, covering 15 km and 800 m ascent. The route is unmarked, GPS is not allowed and Level C mandatory kit must be carried.

A mountain running event in County Wicklow with marked long and short courses, about 450 m climbing on the long route. Level B mandatory kit is required and parking is provided at Cooley Farm with proceeds to Wicklow Cancer Support.
